About Richard Arens
  Richard Friederich Arens, b. Iserlohn, Germany, ∈ [1918.05.04, 1919.05.03]; † May 3, 2000, L.A., @ 81 (cf. NYT, 2000.05.19).

Age 22 (1941): graduated UCLA;
Age 26 (1945): Ph.D. Harvard;
1945-1947: Assistantship, IAS, Princeton (cf. IAS Bulletin);
1947-1989: Math. Faculty, UCLA;
1989-2000: Emeritus, UCLA.
  Interests: functional analysis, function algebras, field theory and quantization, mathematical foundations of physics, quantum information theory.
  Survivors: a son, Philip, of Los Angeles; a sister, Hildegard Wustenberg of Munich; and two half-brothers, Hubert Arens of Hamburg, Germany, and Ludwig Arens of Denia, Spain.
  Predeceased: wife, Helen Cornfeld Arens, violinist and mathematics professor, &dagger August, 1999.
